For 40 years, there was always a Golden Retriever in my life — from Sunshine in 1984 to Henry, our beloved “Food Thief,” who passed in March 2024. When Henry died, it ended a lifelong chapter and left an ache I couldn’t explain.

Then something unexpected happened.

After a long overnight dispatch shift, I felt an unshakable urge to look for another animal. I went online but nothing felt right.

Hours later, my father sent a single photo and asked me if I wanted to adopt her.

That dog was Mango.

Within 48 hours, a friend checked on her, I booked a flight to Los Angeles, and on Friday night at 6pm, Mango jumped into my rental car without hesitation — as if she already knew she was coming home. By 2:30am Saturday, Mango officially became a Lucky One.

Mango is about 4 years old. Her previous owner relayed that he did not have time for her anymore and wanted her to go to a good home.

She still needs to be spayed and it's unknown if she's ever been to a vet.

What is certain is that she is gentle, trusting, and ready for the care she’s never consistently had.
