Volunteers
Lucky Ones Ranch was founded in 2016 by Thao and Vince as a nonprofit animal sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in need. Over the years, theyโve built a passionate team of volunteers who have played a vital role in helping the ranch thrive and grow.
Our goal is for every volunteer to have a meaningful and fulfilling experienceโcaring for the animals, connecting with fellow volunteers, and engaging with visitors who come to learn about our mission. Weโre truly grateful for your interest in joining our team and making a difference.
What are the volunteer requirements?
To ensure the safety and well-being of our sanctuary animals, we will only contact applicants who we believe are the best fit for our team and our animals. All volunteers must meet the following requirements:
Be at least 18 years old
Live within 20 miles of Vacaville, California
Commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week for at least 6 months
Be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform various cleaning tasks
Communicate effectively and follow all Lucky Ones Ranch policies and procedures
Demonstrate understanding and application of information provided during orientation, and complete assigned tasks each shift
After training, work independently and complete shifts without direct supervision
Can I use my volunteer work at Lucky Ones Ranch to fulfill required service hours (e.g., school, court, or community programs)?
At Lucky Ones Ranch, we are looking for volunteers who are genuinely passionate about animal care and want to be part of our mission. For this reason, we do not accept applications from individuals seeking to fulfill mandatory service hours.
What does a typical volunteer day at Lucky Ones Ranch look like?
Volunteering at LOR means helping ensure our animals are safe, healthy, and well cared forโrain or shine, every day of the week. While each shift may vary slightly, a typical day includes hands-on, essential tasks such as:
Cleaning and refilling water bowls and troughs with fresh, cool water
Feeding animals with sorted produce, providing grain, and refilling hay nets
Filling and hanging hay nets
Mucking out pens and walkways using shovels/scoops and a wheelbarrow, then dumping waste at the compost site
Sorting donated produce to ensure only safe, fresh items are used
Observing animals for any health or behavioral concerns and reporting them immediately to Thao or Vince
Checking fences and gates for any damage or safety issues
These tasks are vital to our animals' well-being, and we rely on dependable, hardworking volunteers to help complete them during each shift.
