Volunteers

In 2016, Thao and Vince founded the Lucky Ones Ranch non-profit animal sanctuary. Throughout the years, they have put together a team of dedicated volunteers who have helped keep the ranch thriving and growing!

Our hope is that each of our volunteers have a great life-enriching experience working for the animals, with their fellow volunteers and the visitors of our animal sanctuary. We are grateful for your interest in joining our team.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

For the safety and welfare of our sanctuary animals, we will only be contacting those applicants that we feel would be best for us and our animals. All our volunteers must fulfill the following requirements:

  • 18 years or older

  • Reside within 20 miles of downtown Vacaville, California.

  • MUST be able to volunteer a mininum of 2 hours a week for a 6 month commitment.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and do a variety of cleaning duties.

  • Able to communicate and follow LOR policies and procedures

  • Able to demonstrate and apply information learned during orientation and complete the required tasks during each shift

  • Once trained; able to self-direct and complete shifts without direct supervision

Will I be able to use my volunteer work at LOR to fulfill my service hours?

All volunteers should be at the ranch because they want to be there. So therefore, we will NOT be taking any applications for anyone needing service hours.

What does a typical day volunteering at LOR look like?

The daily tasks performed by our volunteers are necessary for the animals to live a happy and healthy life, and must be done regardless of what day of the week it is or how horrible the weather may be. On a regular day (no tour), general volunteer duties are:

  • Clean and refill water bowls and troughs with cool water.

  • Feed animals with produce, put out new hay nets, and give grain

  • Fill hay nets

  • Muck out pens and walkways with scoops/shovels and a wheelbarrow. Dump waste at compost site.

  • Sort produce

  • Check animals overall health/appearance. Immediately report any health concerns to Thao or Vince

  • Check the fencing and gates. Advise of any potential safety hazards.
