April Adventures: A Month of Miracles

With your donations, we can continue being the good in the world.

Here is a list of Lucky Ones Ranch events and community appearances for the month of April 2023 :

  • April 3rd: On this day we celebrated a ‘Happy 2-Year Gotcha Day’ for Crouton and Ciabatta.

  • April 4th: We took ‘Lola’ (the baby Royal Palm turkey) to the Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, California for a re-check on her rotated right leg. Exam fee: $85

  • April 11th: Chowder went to the vet for his seasonal flare-up of hotspots, patchy hair loss and ear gunk. Chowder received antibiotics that will help with the ear and skin infection. The visit was $524.70.

    • Also, on this day Sully was seen at LOR by Dr. K for his bleeding scar tissue on his right hip.

  • April 12th: Julia (turkey) went to Southampton Pet Hospital in Benicia, California for bi-monthly acupuncture treatment. The acupuncture helps with her existing leg pains and weakness.

  • April 17th: Sheep shearing day for all 10 of the LOR sheep. Now, all the sheep are ready for the summer months, more light and more aerodynamic without the extra wool on them. Here’s a quick YOUTUBE video of the shearing:

  • April 22nd: LOR officially welcomed Abby (German Shepherd) to the Lucky Ones Ranch Family. After a month’s stay, we decided it was in Abby’s best interest to stay with us.

  • April 23rd: We partnered with Board & Brush in Fairfield for an LOR fundraiser. The participants DIY’d wood inspired custom painted signage for their homes

  • April 23rd: LOR celebrated Alyah’s (Kiger Mustang) 16th Birthday!

  • April 26th: Dr. K came to the ranch to lance an abscess on Baahnana’s face.

  • April 28th: Happy Birthday to the turkeys Isabelle (9 years old) and Julia (5 years old) 🎂

  • April 30th: LOR organized an animal parade for the residents of Pacifica Senior Living (memory care facility). The families of the residents were in attendance and the general public was also encouraged to attend. There were over 160 guests that came out to visit. LOR animals that participated in the parade were: ‘Marco’ the tortoise, ‘Lola’ the turkey, the dogs (Henry, Mikey, Stevie, Holly, and Rosette), ‘Baxter’ and ‘Baguette’ the sheep, ‘Precious’ the Llama, and Josephine Sparke Pants the pony. This was a total success and we look forward to doing more of these events.

  • Two Fridays this month, we took a couple of the sanctuary dogs to Lindsey at Doggie Designs for grooming appointments. Chowder receives his medicated bath for his highly irritable skin while the others get a bath and blow-dry.

  • Every Thursday morning this month we took Henry, Holly, Mikey & Rosette to spread joy and happiness to the residents at Pacifica Senior Living and Kreative Community Services (adult daycare for mentally/physically disabled adults).
